Office expenses budget

Parliamentarians are provided with an annual budget for office expenses under s67 of the Parliamentary Business Resources Regulations 2017 (the Regulations). You are also provided with budgets or limited resources that cover other types of expenses under either the Parliamentary Business Resources Act 2017 or the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 frameworks, including in relation to:
- electorate staff travel and relief electorate employees (under the electorate support budget)
- privately leased office costs (under the satellite office expenses budget, for eligible members).
You are provided with an annual budget for office expenses under s67 of the Parliamentary Business Resources Regulations 2017 (the Regulations) to claim office expenses.
When claiming an expense, allowance or other public resource, you must ensure that you have met all conditions which apply to the resource.
Subject to the limit of your annual budget for office expenses (office expenses budget), you may purchase office stationery and supplies to conduct your parliamentary business.
Your office expenses budget may be used to purchase wreaths, flags, flag lapel pins, portraits, booklets and other specified items related to nationhood, as approved by the Minister, for presentation to constituents and organisations.
Subject to the limit of your office expenses budget, you may purchase or subscribe to printed or electronic publications and media monitoring services for the conduct of your parliamentary business.
You may use your annual budget for office expenses (office expenses budget) for a range of printing and production activities.
You may use your annual budget for office expenses (office expenses budget) for a range of digital communication and social media activities.
You may use your annual budget for office expenses (office expenses budget) for a range of postal and courier activities.
You can purchase stationery, supplies, flags, portraits and nationhood material directly through the whole-of-government contracted service provider (currently COS).
It is your responsibility to ensure that you have complied with your obligations under the Parliamentary Business Resources Act 2017 (PBR Act) and met all conditions that apply to an expense which you claim.
